Sponsorship

Family reunification is one of the primary objectives of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Canada is dedicated to preserving the nuclear family. If you are at least 18 years old, a citizen of Canada, or a permanent resident, you may be able to sponsor some members of your family to immigrate to Canada. You must formally affirm your vow to support your family members by signing an undertaking (promise).

You must fill out a form expressing your interest in sponsoring your parents and grandparents (PGP) before you can do so. You can sponsor someone to become a permanent resident of Canada if you receive an invitation to fill out an application.

You must be able to provide for their financial needs and make sure they don’t want government social aid. When you’ve sponsored a family member, you must continue to help them financially until they arrive to take care of their basic requirements, which include:

Food, clothing, and shelter Be sure your relative is not in need of social services.
